KNIFE CRIME INTERVENTION

an immersive and interactive virtual reality film

Gamechanger online resources and offline challenges have been specifically designed to support young people to consider risk and make informed decisions. Through Gamechanger Challenges, young people learn to identify problems and seek solutions recognising the behaviours and approaches required.

Our knife crime INTERVENTION programme, uniquely combines the following elements to create a targeted blended-learning approach to support children and young people identified as at-risk of becoming involved in knife crime and gang related activity.

Interactive VR

A live action 360° Virtual Reality (VR) film experience includes interactive game play, ensuring the users are initially immersed into the gritty and hard-hitting reality of knife crime and gang-related activity.

The branching narrative concept enables children and young people to make decisions; their decisions impact the outcome and they witness first-hand the consequences from a young person’s perspective. Gamified elements within the Virtual Reality further add to resonance and appeal for children and young people.

The virtual reality piece is used as the catalyst for a deeper discussion into some of the issues around knife crime and gangs. Throughout the remaining sessions, a unique combination of online interactive sessions which include; mini games, quizzes, and real-world examples from young people across the UK alongside physically active Gamechanger challenges.

The programme helps young people to understand the meaning of the virtual experience, the issues around knife crime and its potential impact on their life and the lives of people they care about. Each young person has a unique login where they can track their progress and gain points, badges and rewards.

Expert Training

Each of the six sessions also include facilitator-led Gamechanger Challenges which focus on building resilience and promoting positive behaviour change. Our educational experts have produced and developed all the online interactive resources used within this title, along with real life offline challenges designed to complement its themes. Any person or staff member nominated to deliver this small group experience will be fully equipped with the necessary training.

The ultimate aim of the online courses and wider training tool is to expose the need for group resilience and cohesion in the face of real life challenges. The facilitator will be fully supported to skilfully facilitate this kind of experiential educational content.
